Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are a small part of automobile production which has been with the automotive industry since the beginning of the construction of modern cars with internal combustion engines. Spark plugs’ presence in this industry is more than a century old which is indicative of the fact that the importance of the parts of a car is not determined by their dimensions and weight, but by what they do.

Internal combustion vehicles need an initial spark to burn fuel inside their engine cylinders. This spark is produced by the spark plug. In fact, this small part is one of the most important parts of the engine and causes it to turn on and start working. The importance of this part is such that in case of any failure in its performance, the engine will not start and the car will not be able to move.

Spark plug bodies need an insulator to insulate internal part like electrodes from the housing and prevent the escape of high voltage. The bottom part of the insulator is also in touch with combustion. Insulators in the spark plug required excellent electrical resistance at high temperatures, high thermal stability and mechanical strength. For this application, ALTUS offers different grades of white fused alumina.

ALTUS electrofused products made with care and precision are the best choice for manufacturing ceramic bodies and shells.
